Here's another sample question from PrepJet's Practice Exams. If you want the answer, scroll down a ways to find it. For a complete rationale, shoot me an email, kathy@prepjet.net. Whether you are in the licensing process or already practicing, I hope you enjoy the mental exercise!

Sixteen-year-old Jeremy is referred by his school counselor for truancy. His parents come to the first session, also concerned about withdrawal, rudeness, and other recent changes in his behavior. When the therapist sees Jeremy alone for a few minutes, he says he’s cutting school because he has “started a little business” selling his ADHD medication. “I don’t need the pills, and I do need the money,” he says. How should the therapist assess the situation to develop a response?

A. Get the name of the physician who is prescribing the ADHD medication.

Ask Jeremy why he believes he doesn’t need the ADHD medication.

Tell Jeremy that, legally, his parents must be told about his selling drugs.

B. Get the name of the physician who is prescribing the ADHD medication.

Ask Jeremy if he takes any other drugs or medications that aren’t prescribed for him.

Tell Jeremy that, legally, both his parents and law enforcement must be told about his selling drugs.

C. Ask Jeremy why he believes he doesn’t need the ADHD medication.

Ask Jeremy if he takes any other drugs or medications that aren’t prescribed for him.

Investigate whether Jeremy is putting himself in danger as he sells the medications.

D. Ask Jeremy why he believes he doesn’t need the ADHD medication.

Investigate whether Jeremy is putting himself in danger as he sells the medications.
